Things to consider and prepare for your child's Communion Portrait

Please come as close to your appointment time as possible.  Children may get restless if they need to "wait".  Parking is available behind the Art Center and by the Foundry on Main Street.   The studio is on the 4th floor and ... there is no elevator.

If you have other children, please try to come without them. Our studio does not have a waiting area. We are on a floor with other artists and most of them are painters, which means lots of tempting things for little eyes and hands...like wet paint!

We will have on hand: prayer books and rosaries.  You may select one for your child's portrait or bring a personal rosary/prayer book or family heirloom.

Go over your clothing list:

  • For girls: the dress, slip, head piece, veil, gloves, tights, socks, shoes, sweater or jacket, jewelry. (optional: rosary, prayer book, hanky, hair accessories.)
  • For Boys: the shirt, tie, pants, belt, jacket, socks, shoes. (optional: rosary, prayer book, tie tack, lapel pin.)

You may dress your child at the studio to avoid any "accidents" enroute, schedule to arrive no earlier than 10 minutes prior to your scheduled time.

Please bring any hair supplies you will need to keep their hair looking just so. ( Brush, comb, hairspray, gel...)Tame cowlicks and flyaway hair.

Have fingernails cleaned and/or trimmed, nail polish evenly applied or not at all.  Green nail polish is not attractive with prayer-folded hands and rosary beads.  Check for temporary tattoos. Funny as it may sound, it's usual the girls who have had the tattoos in the past years!!!

Flavorless lip balm. If it has flavor, it encourages lip licking and biting. Not good!

A toothbrush if they will be having a snack on the way to the studio. We want to see pearly whites!

The list of people you will be gifting photographs. After your child's session, you will have the opportunity to place your order. This expedites the process of receiving your finished portraits.

A method of payment. We gladly accept checks or cash in the studio the day of your shoot. To use a credit card  contact the studio and request to be invoiced online via PayPal prior to your session.

Finally, in creating your childs portrait, we ask that you allow Carmen to be the only one to direct your child. We find that any attempts by parents or siblings to get a response only serves to distract the subject. We need their eyes to be looking at the camera...not you unless requested. She will tell your child when to smile or be serene.  A spontaneous smile is more pleasing than a frozen smile.  Thank you for your cooperation.
